Dr. Gabriel Ibarra-Mejia has a MD and MS degree from Universidad Autonoma de Ciudad Juarez, he also has an MS degree in Ergonomics from Lulea Tekniska Universited in Sweden, and a PhD in Environmental Science and Engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso. Since 1988, Dr. Ibarra-Mejia has worked as an Occupational Health Physician for the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social in Juarez, Mexico in charge of the evaluation of workers claims of work related accidents and diseases, disability, and as expert witness in litigation trials against the Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social, and epidemiological surveillance. In 2005, Dr. Ibarra-Mejia joined the Department of Health Promotion at the College of Health Sciences in the University of Texas at El Paso as a research scholar and lectures in the areas of environmental health, epidemiology and research. Dr. Ibarra-Mejia also joined the Department of Industrial Engineering at the Universidad Autonoma de Ciudad Juarez in charge of the Technological Planning and Ergonomic Design Academia. Dr. Ibarra-Mejia is also a private consultant and has extensive experience in the maquiladora industry in the areas of occupational ergonomics, safety, hygiene, and health.

Dr. Ibarra-Mejia is a member of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, member of HFES’s technical groups on aging, industrial ergonomics, and industrial safety and health, and the Association for Psychological Science. In 2007-2009, he was the president of the Border Association of Occupational Medicine (Asociacion Fronteriza de Medicina del Trabajo). He has published several articles nationally and internationally. Dr. Ibarra-Mejia is co-author of Applied Occupational Ergonomics: A Textbook – Spanish Edition, published by International Journal of Industrial Engineering Press in 2009.
