Dr. Timothy R. Smith is a Principal Consultant at JFAssociates, Inc. based in the Philadelphia, PA area. He has a PhD in Engineering Science from Dartmouth College, majoring in material science & engineering. He is a registered professional engineer (PE) and is widely known for his expertise in investigations involving the performance of mechanical and materials systems, ranging from consumer products and personal protective equipment to complex mechanical systems.
From 2006 to 2009, Dr. Smith worked as a technical director for BAE Systems where his experience included leading the product development organization for the law enforcement equipment manufacturing group and the technical team that developed a complete seven brand product offering for body armor division. From 1995 to 2006, Dr. Smith worked at Exponent, Inc. where he had a progressively evolving role with nationally recognized engineering consulting firm in Mechanics & Materials practice area. Prior to 1995, Dr. Smith was a research fellow with the Institute for Mechanics and Materials at University of California San Diego, and was an Instructor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Dr. Smith is a Member, of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) and the Association of the United States Army (AUSA). He has published more than 19 articles nationally and internationally.
